Location
This photo was taken in a local club featuring live music and Salsa dancing.Time
The club usually fills in around 11PM, so I would guess around 10PM. The DJ had his light bars activated just as the first set was about to begin.Lighting
The light bars produced the only light. The ambient light was minimal at best. Enough light to retain some detail in the surroundings.Equipment
This was shot with a Nikon D 800 with a 24-70 f2.8 Nikkor Zoom set at 45mm. exposure settings were f8 at 1/60sec.-ISO 1600. handheld w/o flash.Inspiration
Always fascinated by the lights DJs use and the interplay between the lights and surrounding- floors, dancers, bands, audience. Typically I would shoot in colour. For this shot I felt Black and White added a bit more Drama and feeling. The intimate clubs of NYC.Editing
I typically do minimal post processing. For this image I sharpened and added a little clarity. In my camera bag
On nite club events, I normally carry the Nikon D800 body, 24-70mm f 2.8 zoom, 35mm f1.4 nikkor lenses. Additionally, two flashes and a couple of diffusers...….and a few batteries.Feedback
with capturing the lights and light rays, it's best to have a fast enough shutter speed to catch a single burst. Adjust ISO accordingly. The rest is Composition and minding the Highlights.
