Location
This lady has been visiting my house for some time now asking for money or food. My mother always helps the old lady as much as possible and every time, before leaving, the lady prays for our family's well being. I took this shot outside my house.Time
This lady always visits on a Sunday between 8 to 9 AM. This particular shot was taken on Sunday, 18 February 2018 at 8:27 AM. That day I had woken up early because I wanted to shoot some of the birds that gathered in the trees outside my house. When this lady came, my mother gave her some food and as usual the lady thanked her and went sat on the side walk and began praying. It was then that I took the shot.Lighting
Since I took this shot in the morning, I did not have to worry about the harsh midday sunlight and used the soft glow of the early morning sun to take the shot.Equipment
This shot was taken with a Nikon D7200and the 18-140mm f/3.5-5.6 kit lens. I did not use any other equipment.Inspiration
The moment I saw the old lady's expression, I felt that I needed to capture it. To me, it showed her gratitude for the help we gave her, and her gratitude to God. Once I had taken this image, I showed it to her and asked her permission to post it. She was happy that I asked her and readily allowed me to do it.Editing
I've always heard many photographers say that a Black & White shows the emotions, and when I converted this image to monochrome while post-processing, I also started to believe that. Apart from that, I increased the contrast and the clarity of the image and made minor adjustments to the exposure and the shadows. In my camera bag
I mostly prefer to shoot wildlife and nature, so keeping that in mind, I almost always have my Nikon 55-300mm f/4.5-5.6 connected to my camera, I also keep my Tamron 15-30mm f/2.8 with me for the times when there's an awesome sunset just waiting to be shot!Feedback
Its rather easy to find a subject to shoot, but its very hard to make a compelling image that is able to convey the emotions seen on your subjects. Always look for an emotion, instead of a subject, to capture. Avoid a distracting background by filling your frame with your subject. Try to capture a candid moment as that will contain a lot more emotion as opposed to a posed one. And last but not the least, remember to get permission to use the photo if possible.
