Location
My cat is not one to pose for a camera, so you have to take the shot when you get the chance. This was shot on the kitchen floor which is where he found his pool of light.Time
This was on a mid after noon in February.Lighting
I used the natural light coming through the kitchen window since his face was well lit.Equipment
The camera was a Canon EOS XSI with a 28-90mm zoom. No tripod, unless the kitchen floor counts. No flash needed as I used the natural light coming through the kitchen window.Inspiration
Sunlight on a cat's face, what more do you need.Editing
I grew up shooting on film and unlike digital you can't just delete and try again. Film teaches you to get it correct in camera, so I try to get exposure and framing right in camera. I did use Photoshop to clean up dust and adjust brightness and contrast. In my camera bag
I really don't keep a camera bag ready since my photography interests change from day to day. For example if I shoot something macro then I have the extension bellows setup on a Sony A3000. For more general things it might be the Canon XSi or the 6D with a zoom or a classic m42 mount lens with a Canon lens mount adapter.Feedback
I have said it before but the most important thing to remember is patience. For pet photography you want to get down on their level, eye to eye if you can. Like a traditional portrait try to fill the frame.
