Location
I lived in Johannesburg for a while. Not far away is the Pillanesburg Game Park. I frequently visited as sightings of animals is always like buying a lottery ticket. In the centre of the park is a visitor centre where you can get a healthy breakfast, as good sightings occur early morning or late afternoon. This handsome chap was sitting on fence and was quite amenable to posing.Time
I shot this at about nine in the morning.Lighting
An overcast day made for excellent lighting and allowed all the detail if his colouring and feathers to stand out.Equipment
I used a Canon 5D coupled with my ever trusty 70/200 f2.8 lens. Adding to my satisfaction with this shot, I added a 2x converter to capture this shot. I was quite impressed with the quality, given it was shot hand held.Inspiration
I was captured by the colours of this fellow. So bright amidst the dry African veldt.Editing
No processing was applied, as shot was special. In my camera bag
Normally I carry a Canon 5dMkIV (I have moved on a little since this shot was taken). I normally bring by standard f2.8 set along, 16-35, 70-200 and my 50mm f1.2 for the occasional bit of fun.Feedback
My advice for is type of shot, is have the gear with you, then be patient and to then totally refute the patience comment, be ready at a moment to capture a shot which may only be there for a second. That said, know your camera and know your lenses.
