This window looks out on the Atlantic Ocean from the armory of Fort Jefferson on one of the Dry Tortugas Islands. Fort Jefferson construction started in 1846 originally to protect one of the world's busiest shipping lanes and as a staging area for warships. Union soldiers used it during the Civil War to blockade Southern forces. After 30 years of construction, it was never completed. It was also a prison for Union deserters. Its most famous use was as a prison for 4 men convicted of conspiracy in the assassination of President Abraham Lincoln, including Dr Samuel Mudd who set John Wilkes Booth's (the assassin) leg, broken when he leaped from Lincoln's balcony at the Ford Theater after shooting him.
The Dry Tortugas are about 75 miles from Key West.

Where I am, I always find myself looking out the window wishing I was somewhere else. If I was at this window, I may be content. :) Nice photo Kay.

That's quite a view ! Nice framing and detail.
Dry Tortugas is one of the least visited National Parks, due to its remoteness and having to travel by boat or plane. I wanna go !
