Location
This photo was taken in a cherry grove in Mapleton, Utah, on a first date that we decided to turn into a photoshoot!Time
It was under the soft, orange glow of a summer sunset — the "Golden Hour."Lighting
It's best to take your portraits under soft lighting, whether that is provided by cloud cover or a warm sunset. The cherry grove also provided the perfect amount of shade and made interesting shadows in the background during the entire shoot.Equipment
It was a Canon EOS Rebel T3i, back when I was first getting started. The lens is a Canon 50mm 1.4. No flash, no tripod.Inspiration
Well, my date! She was beautiful and had these kind eyes I just had to capture, not to mention the vintage dress she wore that matched the vibe of the cherry grove perfectly.Editing
Yes, I usually toy around in Lightroom and make sure the eyes "glow" in Photoshop. In my camera bag
I keep it pretty simple. One camera and two lenses —one all-purpose lens and my trusty nifty-fifty. I always have backup batteries and lens cleaner. Let's not forget my camera operation manual, because I honestly STILL forget where some settings are, haha.Feedback
You need to "feel" your photos. The image you are capturing needs to evoke something deep within you. If you feel nothing making your snaps, those who see them are much less likely to feel anything in turn.
