Location
In December 2017 my wife and I spent a few days around Wollongong, south of Sydney. On one of those days we met up with some friends of hers in the small coastal town of Shellharbour. While they talked, I wandered around taking many photos of the pelicans, as well as other aspects of the coastal town life.Time
Early afternoon.Lighting
The sky was completely covered with moderate cloud. In a way, that was a good thing, because it cut down on glare. The top of my head got sunburned, though.Equipment
I travel light. I have only a Canon PowerShot SX610HS, which I slip into my pocket and take everywhere. I have two tripods and a monopod, which I didn't take with me on that trip (indeed I rarely take them on any trip).Inspiration
The pelicans were swimming, flying, preening, perching on poles etc. Suddenly I noticed them walking in perfect formation and managed to take this one photo before they broke formation.Editing
Photos for Mac has a generic tool named 'Enhance', which I use on almost all the photos I post to Viewbug. I also cropped the photo - there are some boats in the background which distracted from the pelicans (you can just see part of their reflection). I don't do a lot of post-processing.In my camera bag
Just my camera. Apart from the tripods and monopod, I don't have anything else.Feedback
Be prepared to look silly! I don't know if anyone was looking at me strangely. It didn't seem to bother the pelicans, but keep your distance, for their sake and yours.
