There he was, finally: the first snow of the coming winter.
When the snow-bringing clouds disappeared, the mountains of the gantrisch area were white from the fresh snow. I used the opportunity - knowing that the snow would be melting fast - and went up there.
In the mountains, I was got beautiful weather. A light wind blew while I sat on warm stones. Birds were flying around in the golden evening sun, and the smell was lovely; fresh air and resin of the conifers around me.
I stayed there until the first stars were visible and the last red light was slowly disappearing in the southwest...

Location
In the Gantrisch area, where the landscape changes and hills slowly become mountains...Time
Just after sunset. I had to hurry because i wasn't sure where i can get this view. And i left my ND-Filter in the car, so i had to wait until it's dark enough to get some light trails.Lighting
Well, the light was much more impressive than expected. I didn't even realize the position of the moon, until i saw a glow between the clouds. I wasn't even able to capture the entire moodEquipment
Shot with my Canon EOS 5D Mk III with a EF 24 - 105mm lens - on a tripod. No filter or something else. Just a closed aperture and low ISO to lengthen the shutter speed as much as possible.Inspiration
I know that mountain pass very good and i was always thinking about using that particular part in a photo. But i wasn't sure if i can find a good place to set up the camera without risking to fall down onto the road. But then i found a small path through the forest nearby, leading to exactly that point.Editing
Some color corrections were necessary, because the bright, warm areas were almost too saturated. So i had to lower that.In my camera bag
There's always a wide angle lens in my bag, maybe even two. There's an Irix 15mm and most of the time a Canon EF 17 - 40mm in the bag and the EF 24 - 105mm directly on the camera. Just to have that extra length if needed. And then of course many cluttery things all around the bag; spare batteries, remote trigger, ND-filter holder, allen wrench for the tripod and some other things... That's it. And two really important things: a mosquito- and tick spray and a head lamp. It may be darker than expected when returning to the car after photographing.Feedback
Be prepared... And be there early enough. I had to rush and that's why i forgot the ND-Filters, etc. It was a big, forced compromise that way and i wasn't able to do whatever i wanted. So just be prepared, don't hurry and take enough time to think about everything - don't leave something important in the car or something because you're stressed.
