Behind The Lens

Location

I took this photo at the edge of the Leichhardt River bank. This River bed is actually dry for 9 months of the year unless it rains quiet heavily.

Time

It was about 5pm or so I had just finished work and it had rained non stop for a couple of days.

Lighting

The sun was hidden in cloud cover but it was just dark enough to be able to use a 1sec long exposure hand held to catch the water flowing with some motion.

Equipment

Cannon 50D with 18-55 kit lens hand held

Inspiration

This is a rare sight to see here as the river runs dry most of the year. Everyone comes out to witness the flowing river and watch as it covers every bridge and crossing ing in town except for one large bridge for the Barkly Highway.

Editing

Some Lightroom tweaks to bring it to life and show more colour as the original picture didn't show the colours as you would see them yourself.

In my camera bag

Cannon 50D, 50mm F1.8 lens, 50mm F1.4 USM lens, 18-55mm F3.5-5.6 lens 55-250mm STM 3.5-5.6 zoom lens Sigma 10-20mm wide lens F3.5. Shutter remote. Yongnuo flash,

Feedback

Running water and flowing rivers and streams are really terrific subjects for using a longer shutter speed on. Capture the motion of the moving water looks better than freezing it in time standing still.
