Location
This was taken at the top of Bernal Heights Park in San Francisco.Time
This was just after sunrise in winter, so the shadows are rather crisp.Lighting
I was super lucky to get to see this. I drove my partner to an early film shoot in the area and managed to find my way up the hill. I'd never been there before and was blown away at the view.Equipment
I had my Sony A7RII and the 70-200mm G Master 2.8. I didn't even bring my bag, I just started wandering around the neighborhood.Inspiration
I immediately saw an opportunity once I crested the hill and waited for someone to show up on the trail. I wasn't expecting the silhouette effect to be so strong, but it turned out nicely.Editing
I had to do quite a bit in post in order to knock down the haze and see the distant mountains, but not much more than that.In my camera bag
I have what I consider a "full" kit with a Sony A7RII, 16-35mm 2.8, 55mm 1.8, and a 70-200mm 2.8. These all fit nicely in a single Lowepro backpack that I've had forever, and I feel prepared for just about anything. I also have a small cleaning kit, a fold-able white/middle gray card, and a USB power brick in case my batteries or phone run low.Feedback
I just went out this morning to the same place after weeks of planning and the weather was horrible. I recommend having a well-rounded kit and try to be ready for anything when adventuring. Working around sunrise and sunset also help immensely.
