I took this photo on the Oregon coast at Rocaway beach looking near twin rocks.Time
This is one of my favorite images, I took this picture the day I bought my Rokinon 14mm and drove straight to the beach. I arrived a few hours before sunset. Just before sunset the weather completely changed from a gray overcast Oregon fall day to this breath taking sunset.Lighting
This was a typical September day on the Oregon coast gray. So I was not expecting to see anything like this, but the clouds burned off just before sunset giving me this amazing light blue sky with a orange glow from the sun. I wanted to capture the different colors in the sky. So I lined up with Twin Rocks in the distance and took the shot.Equipment
This was shot on a Sony A7RII with a Rokinon 14mm F2.8 on my Manfrotto MKBFRA4L-BH BeFree Travel Tripod.Inspiration
I was looking for something to shoot with my new Rokinon 14mm. So I drove straight to the beach, when I got there it was completely overcast and gray. I was disappointed at first but I stayed around to see what I could get and get a better feel for the lens. After a few hours I got a few images I was happy with when i decided to get some dinner at a pub just off the beach. Once I came back out side the weather had completely changed the cloud cover was almost entirely gone. I started walking up the beach and as the sun set i was completely blown away by the colors in the sky. I busted out my camera and tripod and took what is one of my favorite images.Editing
I usually try to do as little post processing as possible, How ever with this image my sensor was dirty. As a result I had to remove a few spots from the image along with some color correction. In my camera bag
The first thing I always make sure to have in my bag is extra batteries and memory cards. Then I have my A7RII body with an L bracket attached So I never have to deal with a tripod plait. My Lenses are a 50mm 1.8, I love using this for street photography. The 85mm 1.4 G master, Is great for portraits, Ive only had it for a few months and have fallen in love with it. My Rokinon 14mm 2.8 and flash for my real estate work. The final lens I carry is my cannon 28-135mm f/3.5-5.6 with Fotodiox pro covert. This is a great work horse lens that can take a beating, It's the only lens I still have from when i was shooting canon.Feedback
The best advice I can give for shooting landscapes at sunrise or sunset is you have to be there. Sure most of the time its just a standard sunset, it might even be an unremarkable one. You just have to be patient and present to get some amazing shots.
