Location
This photo was taken on Bank Street Beach in Harwich Port, Massachusetts, in September, 2017.Time
As is obvious from the photo, this was taken in the evening, at sunset, probably around 8pm.Lighting
The sky was mostly clear, so while this sunset did not generate the colorful reds, pinks, and purples that often accompany sunsets with clouds, the sunset still provided a nice warm glow as the sun began to drop below the horizon.Equipment
This was a handheld shot with my trusty old Pentax *ist DL DSLR camera, using a Pentax 18-55mm zoom lens with an optical UV filter mounted.Inspiration
My wife and I had just arrived in Harwich Port at the beginning of a week-long stay, after driving up from Virginia. We decided to go for a walk to stretch our legs after sitting in the car all day, and I grabbed my camera as we headed out. As we walked on the beach, the sun slowly sank towards the horizon, and I decided to see if I could capture the quiet beauty of the empty beach as the sun set.Editing
No post processing was done to this image. This is how the image was captured by the camera. In my camera bag
Back when I was still using the Pentax DSLR cameras, I normally carried the camera with the 18-55mm zoom mounted, but also kept a 55-150mm zoom available for telephoto shots. I also carried an optical circular polarizing filter, and normally had a tripod along as well. And this camera had a tendency to go through batteries quite quickly, so I always tried to make sure I had extra batteries available as well.Feedback
I would have missed the opportunity to capture this image if I hadn't thought to grab my camera as we headed out for our evening walk. I didn't have any specific reason to bring it along, but having it along allowed me to act when the sunset inspired me. Which suggests that always having a camera at hand (even if it is your cell phone) is a good idea so that you don't miss any opportunities to capture memorable images.
