Behind The Lens

Location

This photo was taken in a nice green area near a water mill in the Netherlands on only 10 minutes drive from my home.

Time

This photo was taken in the evening in the golden hour of a warm summer day.

Lighting

There was some backlight of the low sun between the trees. I decided to let the sun just out of the shot a bit above the frame.

Equipment

I shoot with a full frame Sony A99 in raw without flash.

Inspiration

Our pugs are always a good subject for pictures. This time I want to combine with the atmoshere of the warm summer evening. Shooting with backlight is challenging but always good to increase the atmoshere in the pictures.

Editing

The post editing is mostly focused on controling the light (brighten up the darks and decrease the highlights) as this picture is shot with a lot of backlight.

In my camera bag

Camera, 24-70mm zoomlens, 90 mm macro lens, 70-300 mm telelens. Extra batteries, lens cloth. Depending on the type of photography I take my tripod with me.

Feedback

Find a good subject and locate them between you and the sun.Try to avoid overexposed parts and direct sunlight in the frame. I manually controle the light (aparture, shutter speed, iso) for the best result. Still a bit of editing is needed to balance the highlights and the darks.
