Behind The Lens

Location

This taken in my home. I ended up setting up my portable studio for this and utilized a single strobe for the shot. I angled the shot so I could emhasize the centre of the flower (much like a portrait and eyes :-))

Time

This shot goes back a long way but I do believe it was shot mid-afternoon on a weekend and as part of a series I shot around this Lily.

Lighting

Not too much to share here - Single strobe (160 Watt Second)

Equipment

Camera - Nikon D7200, extension tubes with a Sigma 18-250. Tripod and cable release. Black foamboard for a backdrop. Tripod and lighting stands including a stand and boom to hold foamboard

Inspiration

Flowers are my passion and for me, I was looking to be different :-)

Editing

A little cropping and exposure adjustment. Shot in RAW and processed in LIghtRoom Classic.

In my camera bag

Since then, my equipment has changed to full-frame. I still do use my D7100 ad D7200 on occasion. My current gear (dependent on the type of shoot) is Nikon D750 & D610. Primes - Nikkor 20mm f1.8, Tamron 25mm f1.8, Nikkor 50mm f1.8G, Nikkor 85mm F1.8 and Sigma 105mm f2.8 macro. Zooms - Tamron 15-30 mm f2.8 G1, 24-70mm f2.8 and 70-200mm f2.8 both G2's and Nikkor 28-300mm f3.5-4.5. Electronic Flash - Nikon SB700, SB500, StrobePro X60N (Godox 860MKII), StrobePro X200(Godox AD200) and StrobePro X360N (Bare Bulb), StrobePro Radio Triggers.

Feedback

Lighting is everything to me :-) I do shoot my flowers both with studio lighting at home, but do strive for the evenest lighting I can achieve. That's part of my style. I will use flash for a fill if needed. Depending on the effect I want to achieve, I will use everything from available light to flash to strobe to LED lighting including a combination of either. I do have limited space to set up and there are times when I will fill using handheld flash or LED lighting of some sort. When using flash or strobes, I'll use High-Speed Synch as often as possible. If the subject is smaller, I will also focus stack in Photoshop.
