Behind The Lens

Location

I had the good fortune of attending a Cavalier King Charles Spaniel Club event. This is 2 year old "Bianca", who was people watching from her daddy's lap.(He passed away 2 weeks later....)

Time

These events (this was a Halloween FunDay) take place in the afternoons and the weather was beautiful, especially for the fall!

Lighting

The afternoon lighting is always so pretty, around 3:00-4:00pm. Her little face looked angelic!

Equipment

This was shot with a Nikon D600 with a 24-70mm lens, handheld, as a tripod does not work well around the dogs.

Inspiration

We knew that Jerry was not doing well, and being around the dogs gave him great comfort. Bianca didn't miss the opportunity to be a constant companion.

Editing

I wanted to block out all the "noise" around this shot and I felt that the vignetting helped to achieve that.

In my camera bag

Pet photography is absolutely my passion, so I keep squeaky toys, bubbles and tennis balls in my camera bag in addition to a few prime lenses.

Feedback

It has been my experience to always have my camera ready at these events as animals (like children) move quickly. Keeping a low profile, with calm energy, has helped me catch these precious moments. Sometimes, it seems as though I have to remove myself from the socializing but that's when the magic happens. And when I get the shot, it makes it all worthwhile!
