Behind The Lens

Location

I designed the whole set for Animation 1 class at I.T.T. Tech on 3ds Max. I used a picture I took of his glass chessboard for reference.

Time

I worked on this over 5 weeks to make the board and all the pieces in 3ds Max. I used Photoshop and Lightroom to improve the look.

Lighting

I actually used 2 different lava lamps diagonally to get the color reflection off the 2 sides of the glass chessboard.

Equipment

I used a Canon EOS Rebel T2i, Autodesk 3ds Max, Photoshop 3, Lightroom

Inspiration

To create and animate chess for class.

Editing

Working with shaders ad ray lighting in 3ds Max matched up perfectly with the lava lamp colors. In Photoshop, I had burn and dodge pieces to get that direction of light and shadows on the chess pieces.

In my camera bag

I usually have now is a Canon EOS Rebel T3 with a Canon EF-S 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 IS II, Canon EF-S 55-250mm f/4-5.6 IS STM, ExpoDisc 58mm Professional Digital White Balance Neutral Filter, and Wide Angle Macro Lens for Canon Eos Digital Rebel w/50mm f/1.8 STM II
