Behind The Lens

Location

The photo was taken in Tunel da Fepasa, Campinas. This tunnel is a historical place in the city of Campinas, São Paulo, Brazil. Until today is used as a link to pedestrians to cross a railway line and reach one of the oldest districts called Industrial District.

Time

This is one of my favorites photos I've ever taken. We were in the tunnel around 18h and the lights were lit. The sun was iluminating some parts of the tunnel's entrance itself too and the cast of orange and green light was amazing.

Lighting

The intention was this mix: the soft and the rough. The urban landscape, that sometimes is dark, not lit properly, like is possible to see in the first lamp wich is burned. And soft like the moves of a ballerina, that was captured only with the lighting existing in the tunnel.

Equipment

This was shot on a 5DMarkIV helded in hand with a 24-70mm Sigma lens.

Inspiration

This photo is a part of a series. The Urban Ballerina photo series portrays classical and contemporary ballet poses, taking the beauty and delicacy of dance to places where a dancer is not normally seen.

Editing

In this particular case, because the iso was relatively high, I reduce it in post-processing using Lightroom. Also, dodge and burn in the highlights and shadows to enhance the sense of depth of the image. And also, some minor adjustements in the white balance.

In my camera bag

I'm always with my Canon 5DMarkIV in hands. I usually do portraits. I love the 35mm, 50mm and the 24-70mm.

Feedback

Try to connect with person you are photographing. The feeling is pretty important. Techniques are necessary but it is also crucial to evoke emotions. I always photograph with feelings. I put all my heart in what I do to capture beautiful moments and expressions. And sometimes to be near (not using a longer lens) is the key.
