Location
This photo was taken just west of Talbot Lake in Jasper National Park, Alberta, Canada.Time
My father and I were heading through the park on our way to close up the lake house in the Shuswap and we could see the sheep laying at the very top of the hill at the end of Talbot lake. He looked at me and said with excitement "should we go up there and get a better look?! You could bring your camera!!!" I had just recently gotten over a bad cold & was still nursing a bad cough and congested chest, but away we went up the hill! This image was taken around 9:00 am on October 13, 2016.Lighting
The lighting was rather horrible that morning. Once we finally got to the top of the hill it began to snow & the wind started blowing as well, so it was tough trying to keep the camera steady & the lens free from snow.Equipment
This image was taken handheld with my trusty Canon SL1 & my Tamron 150-600 mm lens.Inspiration
I frequently visit Jasper National Park as I only live roughly 2 hours away. Any opportunity I get to photograph its beauty, being wildlife or landscape, I take it! It's one of the most beautiful places in the world and I am grateful to have it in my backyard.Editing
I did some post processing to this image, but very little. I have a set of presets for Lightroom from Cole's Classroom, and one of my absolute favorites is called "portrait pop". I used this preset to make all the colour more vibrant & make the portrait of the sheep "pop".In my camera bag
I now shoot with a Canon 5D mark III, but I always keep my SL1 in my bag as a back up. My essential lenses for heading out to photograph wildlife or landscapes are my Canon 16-35 mm F 2.8 & my Tamron 150-600 mm.Feedback
Spend time with wildlife, at a respectful distance of course, and learn their habits & personalities. The more time you spend out in the wild the better understanding you will have of the world around you! Never stop learning and exploring!
