Location
A unique and beautiful view of one of the most popular mangrove trees among the photographers of Puerto Rico Island. The tree is located at Ponce City coast at the south of the beautiful island.Time
Was around 6:00 PM EST time of October 2014. I spend almost an hour scouting the place to make a different and distinct composition of this popular view. It was a beautiful cloudy day with a sunset forecast for 6:05 P.M.(EST) I walked around the mangrove tree in the water until faced the southwest positioning the sun at my right side out of the composition.Lighting
I wanted to capture the beautiful light and sky color of that day and at the same time I wanted to have the motion effect of the water around the tree . The image that I created is one of my favorite because it has Awesome colors on the sky, some of them reflected on the water surface with the long exposure effect. To achieved this having low light condition on the foreground and highlight on the background was a real challenge.Equipment
This was shot on a Nikon D600 camera, with a 24-70 mm f/2.8 Nikon lens on an Induro CLT404LTripodInspiration
As I mentioned before this view is one of the most popular location among the photographers of Puerto Rico Island. I was inspired for some the images taken by some photographer friends however I was looking for a different composition and color seen before.Editing
The image has the basic work flow post-processing that I usually do on my landscape images; White balance correction, black and white point correction, opening of the shadows on the tree trunk. In my camera bag
I usually has in my bag the D600 body camera, three (3) Nikon lens: 16-35 mm F/4G, 24-70 mm F/2.8 and the 70-200 mm. In addition I always keep with me a set of 3,6 and 10 ND filters, a remote shutter and a solid stable tripod (Induro).Feedback
As a landscape photographer you must be patient, looking for the best time and light to capture. Having a good plan is a most, specially here in Puerto Rico where the weather changes every 5 minutes. Knowing the weather forecast, sunset/sunrise hours, tides hours, wind speeds and cloud forecasts will maximize your possibilities of bringing with you a good image that day. Always spend time scouting the site in advance and always be safe.
