Behind The Lens

Location

This photo was taken in the Province of Alberta near the British Columbia border.

Time

It was shortly after sunrise , that I took this image . The sun was still behind the mountain so I still had good light . I was stopped at this location because I had been driving for hours and needed a break from the road and I was getting hungry .

Lighting

While at this location I was just stretching my legs and exploring a footpath I had found when the scene unfolded before me . I noticed the light was amazing and run back to my vehickle to grab the camera and try to catch the scene before the light got to hard .

Equipment

I believe I used a Nikon D300 with an 18/55 kit lens or it could have been my 18/70 don’t remember what one but both are kit lenses .

Inspiration

The lighting the color and the scene was the motivation for this image .

Editing

I believe I used Capture NX ll to do a crop of the image and remove some dust spots , I am very new to post post processing and new Capture NX ll as well.

In my camera bag

Now I have a Nikon D 700 . Lenses are Rokinon 14 mm F 2.8 /Nikkn 70 /300 F.4.5/6 /Nikon 50 mm F1.8 / Nikon 105/2.5 manual focus. Nikon 135/F2.8 M/F

Feedback

Well I am no expert by any stretch but what I learned from taking that image was this . Time of day the time of year are something to think about as well as a new being in a new location . Why ? Well in returning to my vehickle with the shot in the camera something caught my eye as I walked out of the forest . 3 Grizzly bears were grazing not 60 feet from where I was taking the photo , they noticed me the second I spotted them . I was terrified as I was still far enough away from my vehickle that if they charged I was not sure I could make it . My mind racing now , thinking do I have my keys handy or are they buried in what pocket can I get the door open in time or get the truck started in time , lol. Fortunately for me they don’t see to well , they were in shade and I was now in sun so I may have been far enough away thst they did not see me or they were just not interested in me while they were grazing ??? When I got into the vehickle I could not believe how much I was shaking lol, but I thought what an opportuninty so I put on the 70/300 and opened the door to grab a burst of them , hiding behind the door and trembling I managed a few images of them . I will from now on be aware of my surroundings for sure . It’s easy to get focused on the image and not see or hear danger so it pays to take a look around and make some noise before venturing into unknown territory with your camera . I was very lucky that morning .
