Wow... beautiful capture!!! My Osprey shoots are more like silhouettes in the sky. I practice on Gulls who are amazing fliers and challenging to capture.

Location
Oxenford Weir, Gold Coast Qld Australia. It's a wonderful place to take images of raptors and water birds where fresh water from the mountains meet the brackish saltwater of the canals.Time
Late afternoon 4.00p.m But is worth going there early morning too, you might catch a glimpse of a rare rake or the night heron.Lighting
Best place to shoot is from the west mostly afternoon as the sun is behind you. Winter mornings usually mist has formed over the freshwater side and the stillness is quite surreal. As the sun begins to rise the warm in images create wonderful drama.Equipment

Osprey are probable my most fav raptor. Where I was born the only ones you could see were in the northern part of the UK. Where I live now, they are right along our fantastic Australian Coastline. The first time I saw these raptors sent shivers down the back of my spine.Editing
I try to do as much in camera as possible, but do work on images with Lightroom and Photoshop where need be. Rather be shooting than processing anyday. In my camera bag

Back button focus. Patience. Pan with the flight of the bird. Set ISO to Auto/ Set Aperture for close birds f7.1-f8/ further birds f4-f6.3. Eye focus is the most important when birding photographing.
