Location
This photo was taken in Dubai Marina (United Arab Emirates) from a rooftop. I am a self taught photographer and photography is my hobby.Time
One day I decided to go with some friends to a rooftop and that was my first experience there, it was one hour before sunset, so we had enough time to discover the place and set our equipments. The image was shot exactly in the blue hour (Technically it last for almost 15 min ) an amazing moment where colors will be vibrant and magical.Lighting
Taking photos in the Golden and blue hour are the most magical images in my opinion, which makes our lives more difficult, you have to be in the location at an exact time to make sure you have enough time to discover the place and set your equipment. I love sunset and sunrise since the light in them is so special.Equipment
I used in this image my Nikon D800 with 16-35 lens and a tripodInspiration
When I went with my friends to the rooftop I was so amazed in the location, you have the sea, the canal, and the towers and finally the magical colors in the sky, since then I loved the rooftop because it gives you a view that you don't normally see in your daily life.Editing
I have used in this image the Digital Blending technique, I don't like HDR images and never will. This image contains 4 images in one, I kept my camera on the tripod without move and took one shot for the sky, the water, the buildings and the street lights, making sure to have perfect metering for every object in the shot. Later in Photoshop I will keep on shot to be the base for example the one i shot for the sky, then I start masking the other images in using the masks in photoshop. In the begining it might sound difficult, but soon it gets so easy that it will become one of the most used techniques in your photography. In my camera bag
I try to keep the minimum items I have my D800, with 16-35mm, 50mm and 70-300mm lenses I have my sp910 flash and an ND filter and a polarizer, as well as my tripod. having a lot of equipments will make you distracted thinking about all of them and it will surely kill your back.Feedback
My simple advice is before you take any course or ask anyone, go to a similar site and try to manipulate the same image even if you don't know the technique, in such was you will have valuable question that can be easily answered, and never stop practicing.
