Location
This is one of my most favorite images, a photo of Trolltunga (meaning: troll's tongue) a rock massif above lake Ringedalsvatnet, Norway. It is a piece of rock that juts out horizontally from a mountain. When sitting at the tip of the rock, you dangle your feet near 700meters above the ground :) The view and location is absolutely astonishing... Trolltunga is one of the most spectacular scenic cliffs in the world.Time
I remember waking up around 5am to have enough time to walk the ways. The hike through high-mountain terrain up to Trolltunga was long and demanding both physically and mentally, about 28km and 12-13hours walk, but i was be accompanied by many breathtaking scenes along the way.Lighting
I did this hike in the second week of July. The sun rise at around 5.30am and set at around 9.30pm so i had near 16 hours of daylight. I wanted this photo to look colorful and give a good sense of nature. The light was natural. The weather was rather dramatic also it rained for a short while. And after half an hour the sky turned clear and the sun was look at us. No other light sources or modifiers were used. If you're adventurous enough, I recommend you get a tent and sleep somewhere near Trolltunga. This way you can reach Trolltunga at sunrise and take magnificent photos.Equipment
The picture was taken with Canon EOS 600D with an IS STM lens.Inspiration
I am an avid photographer and I was dreaming for opportunity to get to Trolltunga ... and of course to take photos there. What makes this view spectacular is not just because of a rock that looks like a tongue sticking out, but also the beautiful fjords and mountains that come with it. I use Google Maps to find good parking spaces, and Google Earth to explore the terrain. Not always it come with great success... but this time the "His Majesty Fortune" was with me :)Editing
Usually a processing is done in nature and landscape photography ... and I'm no exception. In this photo, I also put a lot of effort into geometric straightening of the picture - due to the wide angle lens used.In my camera bag
The lenses I brought with me recently were the Sigma 105mm, Canon 10-18mm, Canon 50mm. The body was Canon EOS 600d. Recently I have had to use a Sony body and lenses - 16-50mm, Sigma 105mm ...Feedback
At least for me, the basics for landscape photography are: good composition, patience, careful prior research of the place you are heading to, and last but not least - always talk to the locals - in most cases they will give you valuable information. Sometimes a bit of luck is also needed :)
