This was one of those "I'll go and see what happens" photos. Setting the alarm, getting up and walking through a heavy frost, to the "Famous Wanaka Tree", waiting for the sunrise to happen. Fortunately there were only 3 of us like minded people there to witness this amazing spectacle, So this was about 7.30 am, just prior to the sun rising above the horizon.Lighting
The lighting was ever changing as the sun got nearer to rising, Used a slow shutter speed to soften the clouds up and smooth out the water, but not to long to smudge out the reflections on the water.Equipment
Fuji XT-1, 18-55 lens, ISO 640, 20 secs at F8, on a tripodInspiration
There are many photo's of this tree world wide, it has become a true Kiwi Icon , So being a kiwi I decided that it was time for me to put my hand up and "here it is".Editing
Not much , usual raw file adjustments, extras include, curves for more contrast, sharpened the tree only, de toned the street lights for less distraction. In my camera bag
camera body, 16mm samyang (astro), 18-55 fujinon lens, 55-200 fujinon lens, 3 and 6 stop ND filters, 2 and 3 stop Grad ND filters, remote shutter, head torch.Feedback
Always scout out area during daylight if possible, always arrive early for best position and set up camera, check sunrise times, warm clothes, dry footwear, check out weather forecast. know your camera settings and how to use them, another words, Practice, practice, practice.
