Location
I have taken this photo in a Private Game Reserve called "Botlierskop" in the Western Cape, South Africa. I was doing a photography course at the time and we had just that one safari to take wildlife pictures. We got to the Elephants pretty quickly and this male got curious about us and took some awesome poses with the best afternoon light.Time
It was around 4-5pm so it was the perfect light to capture this elephant!Lighting
I always say, get the chance to go out when it is cloudy be cause you will get there most amazing light and get maybe some moody shots which tells more of a story!!Equipment
Just my camera, I had the 7D Canon at the time and I had my 70-200mm Canon lens. That's it.Inspiration
It was a quick decision as the animal kept on moving around but I was mostly thinking of the backdrop and the lighting.. the composition was just perfect! After clicking 100 times, you managed to get that one shot! We call it the lucky shot.Editing
I did but not too much!! I had to change the contrast and the saturation just to bring life to the animal. I normally work a lot on photoshop but this shot didn't need much processing. It was perfect how it was.In my camera bag
I have my one camera the 5D Canon and my two lenses: 70-200mm Canon and the 100-400mm Canon. So depending of the Light I switch lenses that would be more suitable.Feedback
I would suggest to know your camera first before you go out and practice, practice, practice. The most important thing in photography you should never forget is Composition and Lighting. If you get these two right, you will get amazing shots!! For action photos like wildlife, I am always on Shutter speed priority and auto ISO. Because animals are so unpredictable and do sudden movements so this setting will never deceive you! Good luck everyone out there and continue capturing great images!!
