Location
This photo was taken at Blue Mountain Lake in New Jersey. It's a small yet beautiful location tucked away in the Delaware Water Gap.Time
We set out to do this photoshoot about an hour before sunset. After we burned off some of his excess energy, he was ready to shoot just in time for golden hour.Lighting
This photo was taken in natural light. The light can shift from bright and intense to dark and dreary pretty quickly in New Jersey, so you have to be quick when working in manual mode. Especially with an excited puppy!Equipment
I shot this photo using my Nikon D810 and Nikkor 24-70mm lens. No tripod or flash, I had to move fast to keep up with all the action!Inspiration
I was approached by my clients to take some photos of their newest family member Rambo. I was told he was 'scared' of water, and even hated baths. I wasn't sure if Rambo would even go into the water, but once he did he didn't want to leave. I had quite a few great shots of him playing in the water, but this proud, strong stance he gave in this particular photo really proved to me that this little guy had overcome his fear. I loved the message the picture sent, and so did my clients!Editing
I believe in using post-processing to bring the total vision of the photographer/artist to life. Much of the sunset was blocked out by trees, so I used photoshop to add in a sunset as a reflection in the water. I also used Lightroom to color balance, and did some dodging and burning in photoshop to add some depth to the image. In my camera bag
I always bring my Nikon D810, 24-70mm and 20-200mm Nikkor lenses. I love using various ND filters in photos that include water, and I bring a circular polarizers as well for my lenses. I also can't leave home without extra batteries, SD cards, a cleaning kit, and a few reflectors.Feedback
My best advice is to get out and explore. People are constantly shocked and amazed by the beautiful locations I find to shoot here in New Jersey. I feel a breathtaking location will not only spark your creativity as an artist, but will also put your clients in a peaceful, serene state that will only enhance their overall experience with you.
