Location
This photo was take in Hawaii on the island of Ohau. The beach is called sand island beach .Time
I can't remember the exact time but i remember telling myself the sun was going down and I had about an hour of good light left.Lighting
Its was a beautiful day with slight overcast which was useful , the clouds help to diffuse some of the sun light .Equipment
For this shot I used my Nikon D800 with a Nikon 70-200mm @ F4. 1/2500 sec, ISO 100. No tripod . For lighting i used a Connonmark K4t @ full power 400watts, mounted on a 40 inch octabox, hand held on a mono pod.Inspiration
This was a very last minute shoot with no concept or preparation. This was my last day in Hawaii and the model Shykane had phoned me early in the morning and asked if I could do a few shots for her to which I agreed, I couldn't find a lighting assistant so her friend volunteered . We met at a beach call Sand Island beach and with little preparation set up one light and just started shooting. She was a complete natural at posing so she needed absolutely no direction which made the entire shoot super easy ! All in all it was a fun shoot !Editing
Post processing in Light room with a few minor tweaks, finished off in CS6 with color adjustments to sky and ocean. Skin processing using frequency separation , dodge n burn and the liquify tool. Sharpening use the High Pass filter. Final touch by adding a color photo filter to give the shot an overall even color tone.In my camera bag
My camera , a Nikon D800. My choice of lens is the Nikon 70-200mm 2.8 and my favorite lens is my Sigma 50mm 1.4 ART Lens . For lighting I always carry 1 Connonmark K4t with trigger.Feedback
As most photographers know the 2 best times to do beach shots are morning and sundown. Because its so bright my shutter speed was 1/2500 of a sec allowing me to shoot at f4 to achieve some nice background bokeh. Because my shutter was set very fast I used an external mono light to light up the model, my light was set to high speed sync which allowed me to balance out the background ambient light with my external light.
