I took this photo in Mt Rainier National Park, WA. This is my favorite place in the park, lower Tipsoo lake.Time
The photo was taken early in the morning. The Moon was setting behind the mountain.Lighting
It was very challenging to take this photo. I didn't have much time to capture the Moon. I literally could see it going down very fast. It was very dark in the park, so I used long exposure, but as the Moon was very bright it couldn't be too long. That was a challenge to find the balance between dark foreground and very bright Moon.Equipment
I used my Nikon D*!) with 24-105 mm lens, and certainly a tripod.Inspiration
Before coming there I photographed the Moonrise over Cascades. I absolutely like to photograph night sky. The Moon and stars are my favorite subject. I'd say they inspire me to take pictures at night.Editing
Yes, I did post-processing, as I shoot in raw. But it wasn't so complicated: that was one shot, I did some basic adjustments. In my camera bag
I usually have two or three wide-angle lenses: Nikon 14-24mm, 16-35mm, and 24-105mm. Just in case for wildlife I have 80-400mm.Feedback
The main advice for landscape photographers is to be prepared before you go shooting. I mean study weather forecast, the position of the Moon, or the stars, and many other things. In this case I was not ready to see the Moon. I arrived there to photograph the sunrise. As far as this particular photo , if you like to photograph the Moon, the best time is Moonrise or Moonset.
