Location
Toronto, Ontario during the annual Canadian International Air ShowTime
Sometime between 2:30pm and 3:00pm.Lighting
Natural light, which really wasn't my best friend during this air show as it was a fairly clear day, however the jets and the smoke they were emitting were hit just right at the time this photo was taken.Equipment
This was shot with a Canon 5D mkII with a 100-400L lens. This was a handheld shot.Inspiration
I've been shooting the annual air show since I started photography in 2009, each year striving to take better shots than the previous year. This group of pilots, the RCAF Snowbirds have always been a fun challenge to shoot though they perform the same stunts at every show. This is one of the shots I take every year hoping to improve on the previous year's shots.Editing
I did some processing, black & white conversion, some dodge and burn on the smoke trails and a bit of levels adjustment to accentuate the contrast. In my camera bag
My camera, flash, 100-400L, 50mm and 24-105 lens. Occasionally I'll include extension tubes.Feedback
When taking action shots it's always important to consider what kind of capture you're looking for. If you want to freeze the action, a higher shutter speed is needed. Don't be afraid of a little high ISO noise in your photo if you need to dramatically increase the shutter speed to get the shot you're looking for.
