Behind The Lens

Location

On Fire Island in New York. This is an incredible little town away from the hustle of the city. No cars are allowed on the island and there are boardwalks like this one that take you everywhere you need to go. The deer run free up the boardwalk with you in a very surreal and intimate way.

Time

Sometime around mid afternoon. After walking back from the beach we found a friend who decided to join us on the boardwalk.

Lighting

The trees helped create little pockets of light shining through.

Equipment

Canon 5D III 24-105mm

Inspiration

I've never been that close to a wild animal like that. When the deer happened to look at me I snapped. Its a great connection with the animal and nature.

Editing

Just a bit of tweaking to really accentuate that warm palette.

In my camera bag

Either a Canon 5D or a fuji xt2. I try to make an effort to bring my camera with me as much as I can.

Feedback

I love the almost human like quality the animal has. Thats something that stands out for me. Often you see animals in their habitat and they're going about their business. This was a little bit different, almost like the animal was saying hello.
