It was precisely here on June 25, 1876 a massive battle was fought between the Sioux Native Americans (Lakota, Cheyenne, etc) and the US Cavalry led by General Custer. Over a hundred years later, the remnants of the battle are all but lost to us except for the national military park which honors the fallen from both sides of the conflict. One of the worst days in American military history, this site is a solemn and sacred place, but deceivingly and hauntingly beautiful at the same time.

I've never been here....but if I ever do visit...I know I will quietly stand there and in my minds eye visualize what happened here....and I know it would stir my heart as it does right now as I see this photo. Beautiful and haunting.

Ah, my father's home state, the land of endless skies. What a lovely shot. Well done. :-)
