Behind The Lens

Location

This was taken in a small stream in Dummerston VT.

Time

Mid afternoon on a cold, not particularly nice day. Savannah was brave enough to venture into the water for a couple of hours wearing very little, I give her a lot of credit for that.

Lighting

Lighting was simple, a Paul Buff Einstein on a stand with a 54" parabolic reflector through a diffuser to camera left balanced with natural lighting.

Equipment

Camera was a Nikon D7100, a Nikon 70-200 f2.8, Vanguard tripod with a pistol grip head, plus the mentioned lighting set up.

Inspiration

I love this location, and I've shot here a few times. We went there to shoot in the foliage but had gotten there about a week early, so the leaves hadn't really changed much yet. Basically, we just shot in and around the river and the falls all day.

Editing

Just some skin smoothing, and contrast, color correction, nothing too extensive

In my camera bag

My camera bag has the D7100, Tamron 24-70 f2.8, Nikon 70-200 f2.8, Nikon 50 F1.8, Nikon 24-120, Tamron 16-300 DX, Nikon SB800, Sekonic L-358, a cyber commander and trigger, two Yongnuo YN-560IVs and the YN560-TX. I also have a small 7" HDMI monitor that I attach to my tripod with a clamp and connect to the camera while shooting to review photos as I go, but it's not a true tether, just a monitor. For main lighting, I have two Einsteins, an Alien Bees B800 and an old White Lighting 800 with various modifiers.

Feedback

The keys to this photo are the beautiful location and the incredible model. All I had to do was not screw it up.
