I was lucky enough to secure a flypast by the Royal Air Force's Battle of Britain Memorial Flight over an event that I organise. They sent their MkVb Spitfire AB910 and we were treated to an amazing three low passes by the pilot. He flew right over the top of us allowing me to capture this superb close up.Time
The photograph was taken late afternoon on a sunny warm summers day.Lighting
Natural light on a sunny afternoon.Equipment
I used a Nikon D500 with a Tamron 150-600mm lens.Inspiration
A love of aviation, especially military.Editing
The shot was cropped slightly to add to the composition, shadows were also raised to bring out the detail in the fuselage. In my camera bag
My Nikon D500 body is my go to choice for any aviation, action or wildlife photography. Mated to the Tamron 150-600mm it gives me great reach and superb burst rate matched with super quick auto focus.Feedback
When taking shots of propeller driven aircraft I always try to slow down the shutter speed to blur the propellor slightly. I feel it a gives a sense of motion and a perfectly frozen sharp propellor on a flying aircraft looks a bit strange. It's a case of finding the balance between blurring the propellor and avoiding motion shake with such a long lens. Practicing panning skills often helps as well.
