Location
This photograph was taken during early morning fog in an island woods off the coast of Maine.Time
Morning light with the fog before the sun broke through definitely enhanced the scene and enabled taking many images without having to adjust any camera settings.Lighting
I used the backlighting from the fog off the water to accentuate the trees and provide an even light for the moss and the floor of the woods.Equipment
I was using a Nikon D610 with a 16-35 mm lens on an Induro tripod.Inspiration
I like to translate the natural presence of the landscape whether it land or seaside into expressive images. I try to convey the feeling of being in a particular location with nature and immediate surroundings drawing attention to specific details such as the clumps of moss, the pieces of fallen branches, portions of granite, and the bases of tree trunks.Editing
I use Lightroom processing to adjust white balance as necessary and often NIK software to enhance contrast or turn images to black and white. My bagIn my camera bag
My bag normally contains a back-up DSLR and a Canon point-and-shoot, an assortment of lenses including Nikon 80-400mm and a macro Tamron 90mm since I enjoy complementing these landscape scenes with detailed close-ups which often are passed unnoticed.Feedback
Using a wide angle lens such as the Nikon 16-35 and emphasizing foreground helps provide a feeling of "place". Also, paying attention from where the light is emanating helps. Back or side lighting is more appealing than over the shoulder, direct "light on" lighting.
