Location
On a beautiful stretch of road located on Larch Mountain, An extinct volcano just outside of Portland Oregon.Time
In the afternoon, Can't remember the exact time.Lighting
The light was spectacular at that time, The fog was at the perfect density to let light in, But not too thin that the light rays wouldn't show, Was one of the most beautiful scenes i've ever seen.Equipment
Sony A58 W/ 18-55 SAM II Kit lens, Ravelli tripod and Vanguard TBH-100 head.Inspiration
My dad has never been up on Larch mountain before, The view from the top is amazing, So before they close the road for the winter we took a quick drive, But on the way up we turned a corner and came out of the fog, I looked in the mirror and saw some spectacular light rays! The truck stopped immediately and i ran out with the camera and tripod ready, I knew it wasn't going to last long so i took as many shots as i could, By the time i was finished, It just wen't away, As if it was there just for me to capture it.Editing
I have done quite a bit of processing to make it fit the way i saw the scene, The RAW image was quite dull and didn't make me feel the way i saw it in person, I've brightened up the image, Added some saturation, Lots of brush strokes and gradient filters, Until finally it fit the way i saw and felt it in person. In my camera bag
At the time, I had a very basic setup, Just a tripod with a head, Camera and lens, Shutter release remote, I have added things too my bag since, I now use a Nikon D7200 with a couple lenses, Vanguard VEO235AB W/ the same TBH-100 head that was used for this image, and now a wireless remote over a wired remote.Feedback
Capturing light rays is quite difficult, Conditions have to be perfect, I just happened to drive by at the right time, Just go out and shoot, Do some research on your location, And keep trying, Some times a shot may take days, Weeks, even months to capture, But in the end, It will be worth the wait.
