This photo was taken in my garden - I spend a lot of my time in the garden photographing bees, other insects, flowers, anything that I think may make a good photograph. I was once told that if you think there is nothing worthy of photographing, and this can be anywhere, then look again because there are bound to be endless photographic opportunities - open your eyes and your mind!Time
The image was taken around 10am - it may sound strange but I am obsessed with trying to capture bees in flight and I just love these little blue and white banded guys, so I grabbed a chair sat my self down in the garden armed with my camera and waited - this is the result - and I love it!Lighting
The photo was taken in morning sunlight - no special effects were used.Equipment
This image was taken with a Canon 7D, EF-S 18-200mm f/3.5-5.6 lens - no other equipment was used.Inspiration
I love taking photos of bees and I am always striving for images like this one - on any weekend you will find me trying to capture the perfect image of a bee!Editing
The only post processing was to slightly crop the image. I used the telephoto to zoom in so it wasn't that much of a crop.In my camera bag
I never leave home without my camera - you never know when a great photographic opportunity will present itself! and my camera bag which contains everything I think I will need ... I always have cleaning equipment, extra batteries - fully charged, extra compact flash cards - you never know when you are going to use up all available memory and then have to decide which images you are going to delete because you want to take more photos ... not an ideal situation, my Canon EF-S 60mm f/2.8 Macro lens and Canon EF-S 55-250mm f4-5.6 lens, filters UV, CP to name a couple ... that's about it.Feedback
Patience ... to capture images like this you really need to be prepared to wait until an opportunity presents ... sometimes I sit and just wait for the bees to appear. Also need to shoot as many frames as you can so have the camera set to high speed continuous, and I always have my 7D set to either the 'P' or 'AV' setting. I shoot these images with either my EF-S 18-200mm or my EF-S 60mm f/2.8 Macro lens just to mix it up a bit and see what the each lens can provide me with.
