Behind The Lens

Location

In Italy

Time

After lunch time, on our holiday in Italy, we went to our room. The sun was high - it was 14:16 at end of August - and I decided to take a picture of my son who was playing on his smartphone on the balcony. He does not want to be photographed, so I had to be very careful

Lighting

The sun was high, so lighting was clear but no sunlight on my son's head. This was ideal

Equipment

Nikon D5000 with a Nikon 18-55mm lens

Inspiration

I'm always looking to get some snapshot, to freeze a special moment, a moment of inattention. In this situation, my son was busy to play on his smartphone and so I took my camera and decided to shot him from above to avoid any background and to get the reflection of his body in his sunglasses.

Editing

I decided for a b&w version with selected color to empasize the sunglasses. Then I sharpened the sunglasses and darkend the borders

In my camera bag

Before, my Nikon D5000 with an 18-55mm and a 70-300 mm lens. Now I take my Nikon D750 with a 50 mm lens, a 70-300 lens and a 28-70 mm lens. Depending on where I go, I exchange my 50mm with a 100 mm Macro lens. A small Tripod with a remote control

Feedback

My focus was the sunglasses. I chosed for a small aperture (f.5,6) to get the focus on the face only
