Location
This photograph was taken in Blackpool during the summer of 2016, I had originally planned to shoot on the North Pier and I set up to do so, however one of the managers of the North Pier approached me and asked for a £500 fee, so I soon packed up and walked along the shore front. We stopped at this location whilst we decided where to now go and as we laughed at the situation we found ourselves in and at the ridiculous amount the pier manager wanted, I looked at the girls, hair blowing in the crazy summer wind, seagulls hovering for any scrap food we might have and that was it, the shot I wanted was right in front of me.Time
This was around mid-day, it was glorious sunshine, but quite clearly it was also a very windy one, as it is on most summer days in Blackpool.Lighting
It is all available light, backlit from the sun, but a wall behind me was bouncing back a soft light onto the girls. No flash was used and obviously it was too windy for my reflector.Equipment
This was captured using my Nikon D800 and Sigma 35mm lens.Inspiration
The whole day was an experience none of us will ever forget, we laughed at the situation we'd found ourselves in following a 2hr drive, we honestly thought it was a complete waste of a day, all the planning and mood board work we'd done was useless. Watching the girls laugh in the summer wind was all the inspiration I needed.Editing
I do most post-processing in camera raw and then fine tune in Adobe Photoshop, no real tricks to make you all aware of other than that.In my camera bag
All my cameras are Nikon, but I have a mixture of lenses so that I am prepared to capture most situations. I also carry 2 or 3 speed lights, wireless triggers, gels and battery packs, so my kit-bag is quite heavy.Feedback
I don't think giving advice on trying to capture something similar would help to be honest because images like this can't be planned, you just have to go with the flow and try to identify the right opportunities. Just keep your eyes open and your camera in your hand, because you'll need to be quick when you see it!
