Location
I took the photo in a nearby forest. Actually, I noticed this place by accident when I was driving to a park in a nearby town. Out of the corner of my eye, I noticed an interesting place.Time
It was the end of October and the leaves on the trees were at their peak of color. This time is very short. A few days at most, when the leaves take on full color and the wind has not yet managed to knock them off the trees. I went to the park around 2 p.m.Lighting
You don't need a sunny day to take a picture of the shaded view. It is enough for it to be a bright day with a high cloud base. Then the lighting of the set is even. In the case of a sunny day, it is better to try to photograph the details. For example, a leaf highlighted by a ray of the sun. You then have to choose a contrasting background to emphasize its shape and structure.Equipment
Try to keep the sensor sensitivity relatively low, for example 100 to 400 ISO. This way you will avoid noise in the photo. However, if the amount of light is not enough, then extend the exposure time and use a tripod. In my case, there was enough light and I didn't have to use a tripod. Do not use flash as harsh shadows will ruin the whole effect. I usually take two lenses with me. Wide angle for general views and zoom for details. For this photograph, I used a 17mm wide-angle lens that was attached to a Sony 350 camera with an APSC sensor.Inspiration
I usually avoid being inspired by other photos. This was also the case this time. I look at the set from different sides, angles and heights. I choose the most interesting view and take 3 photos with different lens angles.Editing
I take photos by saving them in RAW files. This makes it possible to correct many parameters in the photo development process. For these purposes, I use the free DarkTable software which gives the same functionality as Lightroom. In the edition, I pay attention to overexposure and lower the exposure in terms of bright highlights if an element in the photo shows overexposure. I do the opposite with underexposed places. Then I adjust the black level, contrast and color saturation. Finally, in the case of autumn photos, I raise the light temperature to around 7000K. Ultimately, I soften the photo quite a bit to get rid of small details that distract from the overall view.In my camera bag
Usually, I go to an outdoor session with two wide and narrow angle lenses and an additional battery. I always have a tripod in the trunk.Feedback
For autumn photos, choose cloudy days. When editing, do not forget about warming up the lights and softening the entire photo.
