I took this photo at the Japanese Gardens in Portland Oregon.Time
Due to a hectic morning and nothing going our way timing wise it was taken during the worst time around 12:30 in the afternoon!Lighting
If you've ever been to the Japanese Gardens it is so lush and beautiful you get a lot of different varieties of natural lighting throughout the garden. This particular spot was my favorite and I just let the natural light do its thing and I got my favorite picture out of it.Equipment
I used my Nikon D3300 with the 18-55 mm lens. Nothing else was used and this was my first weekend using the camera!Inspiration
My husband and I were celebrating our 9th anniversary and he had never been to the Japanese Gardens before. The entire garden is inspiring and incredibly peaceful. It was 100 degrees out when we were there and I loved these stairs but the heat was killing me and I dreaded walking up them. So I figured the bottom of the stairs was a good spot to take a mini break and take some shots while I was at it. I love taking pictures from different angles and these stairs gave me a good opportunity to practice that. This ended up being my favorite picture from that day.Editing
Nope I'm not big on post processing but that maybe is because I haven't had too much of an opportunity to try anything out yet.In my camera bag
My Nikon D3300 with my 18-55 mm lens or my 55-200 mm lens. A memory card and battery charger. Since I'm a beginner I have a small photography book with me to help if I need it. Also an adapter to transfer pictures from my card to my iPhone.Feedback
I'm such a beginner I don't feel qualified to give others advice. But for me, I like to figure things out and one thing I figured out quickly was that I love taking pictures from different angles. I find taking pictures just standing straight up on flat feet results in a flat, lifeless picture. So I always try to crouch down or get higher to gain a different perspective and bring some life to the pictures I take.
