Location
This photo was taken in Oceanside Ca. There was a small inland area of water that was calm, and out of the way.Time
This was taken around 7 in the morning. We had one location before this one and when we got to this location we had a makeup change. So we are on the beach gluing seashells to the models face while people were eating breakfast and watching us from their balconies.Lighting
I used natural light for this shoot, it was early in the morning and overcast which was perfect for the mood I was trying to create.Equipment
I used my canon 5D Mark ii, and my 40mm pancake lens.Inspiration
This is from a series I did, a destroy the dress shoot. We wanted to tell a story about her journey to escape. The first in the series is the awakening. She is standing finding herself alone. This image is the second in the series. She is drowning, needs to get out, she knows she is drowning and try's to float. After this image there are three more.Editing
Because of the location and my lack of ladders I had to take about 5 photos and stitch them together. After that is is just the normal workflow for color, contrast. In my camera bag
Right now I have my 5D Mark ii, 90mm tse 2.8, and a 70-200mm 2.8. I also have an old 28mm and 135mm film lenses and adapters.Feedback
For us the locations were important and during the day and evening they were usually packed. My advice is, wake up early to get those sweet spots and make sure you are prepared. As for everything else, I had a great partner/model who was willing to get into the water.
