Location
The photo was taken in a small city where my parents have a summerhouse.Time
It was 6 p.m., I was walking with my 3 years old daughter, taking her to a kids playground, when she stopped and show me these beautiful dog looking at us downstaits the gate. When I saw that, i just thought that I coudn't miss this shot.Lighting
When I saw the scene, I knew it was a good opportunity to make a black and white photo. But I did not have much time, the dog could get out at any second. I was on manual mode and using the spot metering. There was only natural light from the end of the day illuminating my subject. So, I measured the light in the white part of the dog's face, making up to +2.Equipment
This was shot on my Canon 600D with the 85mm f/1.8 that I was carring to take some portraits of my daughter.Inspiration
I did not expect the opportunity to make this photo. As I said, I was expect to do some portraits of my daughter while she was playing on the playground. But one of the reasons that I love the photography is that the moments happen in front of you, the opportunities are around. We can plan to make perfect photos of sunrise and sunset, make an excellent production for portraits, but sometimes opportunities happen when you do not expect. Sometimes you have one oportunnity, so we have to be always ready and connected in what happens around us, watching ever small detail.Editing
I did all my post processing in Lightroom. All very simply. I just turned to black and white, increased the contrast and clarity. I put a little vignette and used some adjustments with the brush, highlighting the eyes of the dog.In my camera bag
Now, I upgrade to a Canon 6D, and always carry in my bag 24-105mm f/4L, I think it's a good lense with a excelente range to take different kids of photos. I usually carry my bag the Rokinon 14mm f/2.8 and, when I know that I can have the opportunity to do some portraits, I carry my 85mm 1.8. I have a 430ex II flash from Canon, but I prefer to use natural light. When I go out to do landscape portrait, I carry my Monfrotto befree tripod.Feedback
We must always be alert to opportunities to photograph that are around us. Sometimes small moments, small details go unseen because we are always looking for the perfect light, the perfect moment, the most beautiful scenery.
