This is the first time I've seen a snapping turtle in the wild. It was extremely calm and tolerant of me. I was laying in a drainage ditch taking the photos as close to the water as possible when I realized I had not checked for snakes; BAD IDEA. Just then the home owner walked up and spoke sending me 3 feet in the air! My startle would have been a fabulous photo.
