Behind The Lens

Location

Under the fishing pier at Ocean City, New Jersey.

Time

I captured this image at 6:36 am on 9/16/12.

Lighting

Ocean City, New Jersey has more clear sky days than clouds so when I saw just a sliver of pre-dawn light on the horizon, I couldn't get down to the beach fast enough!!

Equipment

I used a Nikon D300 with a Nikor 18-200 VR Lens on a Manfrotto tripod. f/11, 1/2 sec, ISO- 200, 18 mm focal length.

Inspiration

The light and the effect it had on the water and clouds!!

Editing

This is a 5 exposure HDR image (-2.0, -1.0, 0.0, +1.0, +2.0) merged in Photomatix Pro 3.0 and final editing in Adobe Photoshop Elements 9.0.

In my camera bag

I always carry a Nikon camera with me wherever I go. I now use a Nikon D7200 with a Nikor 18-300 VR lens. I find this combination is truly reliable with extra zoom.

Feedback

Check the timetables for sunrise and where the sun will be on the horizon. That way you will be ready when/if the opportunity arrives.
