Behind The Lens

Location

This photo was taken at the Arctic Snow Hotel near Rovaniemi, Lapland, Finland.

Time

It was taken in the evening, just before dinner. The restaurant is in this building.

Lighting

I used a tripod to shoot this one and for this image I used 3 exposures, to get both the foreground, the building and the starry night beautifully.

Equipment

I used a Nikon D600 body with a Samyang wide-angle lens here. Those Samyang lenses are great to shoot stars. If you see starry night images with pinpoint stars, you can almost be sure that it was shot with a Samyang/Rokinon lens.

Inspiration

I saw this building and found it so typical for Lapland, that I decided to take this shot.

Editing

I post processed in Photoshop, merging the different shots together and combined the best light of all of them.

In my camera bag

Nikon D600, Benro tripod, Samyang wide angle lenses (14mm, 24mm), Nikon primes: 20mm, 35mm, 50mm, 85mm, extra batteries & charger.

Feedback

Try different compositions and lighting settings and take your time! Experiment with low camera positions too.
