Behind The Lens

Location

I took this photo in October of 2012. I was in Historic Downtown Savannah, Georgia

Time

I took this photo in the late afternoon

Lighting

The light was really good, there was a brick wall on each side of the bicycle and open behind it where the flowers were so the bike was getting great back lighting...You can see it's darker in-front of the bicycle.

Equipment

I was using my Canon Rebel T3i...since it was so long ago I can't remember if I used off camera flash

Inspiration

Like I said this photo was taken in 2012, I was on a photo walk with my photography club. We were walking down the streets of beautiful historic Downtown Savannah, Georgia. I looked thru the fence on the side of the house and saw this bicycle with flowers behind it and though....I really like that....I think that will frame up nicely and the colors will really pop...so I propped my camera on a opening in the fence and framed the shot..in the original shot there was actually a gas can sitting to the right of the bicycle....luckily I was able to crop that out. I have to say this has been one of my all time favorite shots. I have it on canvas hanging in my home.

Editing

I used Photoshop Elements 10. I cropped it, sharpened it, added contrast, and add just a bit of brightness. I was still very new using Photoshop Elements so my edits were very simple.

In my camera bag

Well back in 2012 when this shot was taken I had only 2 lens and 1 off camera flash. I was using my Canon 28-90 to take the shot, and I had my Canon 75-300 in my bag. I also had my Canon 430 EX II off-camera flash in my bag. Extra batteries for my flash and an extra battery for my camera.

Feedback

Lighting was everything in this image.
