Behind The Lens

Location

This was on the beach at a networking event I hold annually based around being comfortable and confident. It’s called ‘The Level Shoot’ cos people can push their levels if they feel safe doing so.

Time

I actually have no idea, it was winter sun, so the lighting hit differently.

Lighting

I think it was just after midday. Cos we hold this on the beach, we’re reliant on tide times which adds an extra challenge when it comes to planning shots. Luckily, I’m very fly by the seat of my pants and see how things evolve.

Equipment

I’m a handheld kinda human. No tripod, flash or reflector at this point. I don’t even remember the lens I used. Would have been either a nifty fifty or a sigma 70-300 f4-5.6. I shoot Nikon though.

Inspiration

I like to celebrate all kinds of diversity. This was LGBT+.

Editing

I desaturated it slightly, sharpened the eyes. But for the most part, I liked the natural. The candid of it all.

In my camera bag

I rarely take a bag. But if I do, it’s now 2 Nikons. D600, and D7000. One has a Sigma 85 f1.4, and the other a Sigma 24-70 f2.8. I’ll carry batteries, a prism, a flashgun, and a small reflector and unless I’m shooting weddings, that’s me done!

Feedback

I know everyone works differently; but don’t plan too much. Sometimes the best moments just… happen.
