Behind The Lens

Location

The photo was taken in my home town of Brisbane Australia

Time

I was on my way home from meeting with a client for a venue check for a wedding and I was watching the weather while driving in towards the city, saw the direction of the clouds and figured Wilsons Outlook was going to be a great spot to sit and wait for the storm, the magic happened :)

Lighting

The secret to lightning shots is not to do the long exposure for too long, I usually work it around 8-10 seconds any longer and and the lightning gets too dull

Equipment

I use a Canon 5D mk III and a Sigma 50mm art series prime lens, such a great combo, sharp as !

Inspiration

Love taking storm photos and in particular lightning with the hope to get some great shots from mother nature in her fury

Editing

The only post processing I do is in lightroom for the raw Image, not a fan of stacked images. Too fake for my liking, I try to keep my images as I see them. Fake moons in photos annoy me lol

In my camera bag

Im my bag is the 5D mk III body, Sigma 50mm art series, Canon 100-400mm L series, canon 100mm L series macro lens, Tamron 24-70mm lens, Viltrox wireless remote trigger, Promaster CPL Filter, head lamp.

Feedback

A good start for capturing lightning at night is Iso100, f/8, and aim for an 8-10 second shot. Shoot a litlle dark at 1 or 2 stops less to allow for the bright flash of the lightning if its close.
