Location
This photo was taken in a forest in the mountains of Kodaikanal, India. On certain days, a dense fog engulfs the town of Kodaikanal and creates an incredible sight.Time
My family and I had just returned to the house after an outing earlier that afternoon. The fog had already started to surround the little town but it was still very light. As the evening progressed, the fog became more and more dense creating an incredible effect on the village. Of course, I went outside to take pictures of this fantastic phenomenon. I started taking pictures of the rope-swing action around 7:00pm and I did not stop until it was dark outside.Lighting
I wanted my pictures to have a dark and mysterious feel to them. The lighting was perfect outside because the fog reflected the evening light so beautifully. The light is this photo is completely natural and did not need any artificial help.Equipment
This photo was shot with a Nikon D5100 and the lens was a Fish-Eye CS 8mm. I used my arms and laying on the ground to stabilize my photos.Inspiration
I have always loved taking photos of nature in all its glory. So when something beautiful happens in any part of the world, I always feel the need to enjoy it and capture it. The colors that evening were so special. I love how a picture can make people feel something. With such a perfect opportunity to make someone feel something, I took as many shots as I could. I want everyone seeing this photo to be awestruck and experience a feeling of wonder.Editing
Luckily, the lighting in this photo was so perfect that it required very little post-processing! Since I am a student, I use the website Picmonkey.com (premium option) to edit my photos at a low-cost. I increased the contrast just a little and added some shadows near the trees. In my camera bag
In my bag, I always carry my nikon d5100, a small tripod, a 1.8 lens, a fish-eye lens, and my 55-200 telephoto. I try to keep it light, so I can enjoy the moment without the distraction of trying to get a picture with all of my lenses.Feedback
The mountains of India are amazing because the weather can change so quickly during the day. I always keep my camera charged in case I need to take a picture really fast. My advice would be to make sure you enjoy the moment first. If I feel peaceful I try to portray that in my pictures. My goal is to make people feel something when they see my photographs. It's also easier to talk about a photo when you fully experienced it before taking just a "good picture". To me, photography is capturing a moment or feeling from a specific time, and it's great that we get to share it with the world with ViewBug!
