Behind The Lens

Location

This photo was taken in Llanberis, Snowdonia in Wales. The spot is a highlight for photographers, who regularly return to try to catch the tree in different lights.

Time

This was taken very early morning, around 05:00 just as the sun was coming up. Usually you can catch the sun rising just to the right of the tree over the ridge of the mountain. On this occasion there was too much mist around, but you can see the colours in the sky just starting to catch the cloud.

Lighting

Get out early and catch the sunrise. There is nothing quite like catching early light, when the air is clear, unlike sunset when there is dust still around from all the day's activity.

Equipment

Sorry I can't remember.

Inspiration

I heard about this tree from other photographers and decided to pay it a visit. I've been here several times, always early, and there have been many photographer vying for a spot to take the best capture. This time, I was early enough to get a good spot.

Editing

Sorry I can't remember, but I don't usually do much even if I do post process my photos.

In my camera bag

I've had my cameras over the years. Nikon D810 and Fuji XT-2. I only currently own a Sony RX100 VII.

Feedback

Be prepared to get up very early, especially if you need to travel to the spot you intend to set up your camera. Expect other photographers to be there too, which can be good and bad, depending on who turns up and how many there are. Take warm clothes, coffee/tea and a spot to eat, as you may be hanging around whilst the correct lighting conditions shows itself.
